CBD flowers: Do you know what you are consuming in France?
The French market has been open to CBD for two years now, thanks to the European law authorizing Cannabis Sativa L, this variety of hemp devoid of THC.
It is now possible to buy CBD flowers (cannabidiol) online or in shops in France, meaning hemp whose THC levels do not exceed the authorized 0.2%.
A quick reminder: what does this European law say?
According to Regulation (EU) No 1307/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 December 2013, it is authorized to cultivate hemp and to exploit the entire plant (i.e. stems, seeds, leaves and flowers) in Europe, provided that two fundamental aspects are respected:
- Work from seeds of varieties listed in the European catalog;
- Comply with the legislation on THC levels, which must not exceed 0.2%;
- But do you know exactly where French resellers source their products and do you really know the products you consume?
For 99% of French merchants, CBD flowers are bought in Switzerland! And yes, our Swiss neighbors have become major producers and they are now flooding the French market, which is in high demand for CBD flowers.
As a reminder, Switzerland is not part of Europe and therefore is not subject to European law. However, the varieties cultivated in Switzerland are not listed in the European catalog.
But what does Switzerland cultivate, you might ask? Well, the Swiss cultivate cannabis and not hemp!
Do you know the "CO2 washing" method?
This method, called "CO2 washing", consists of lowering the levels of cannabinoids, in this case the THC present in cannabis, in order to make the plant legal in Europe.
By "washing" the flowers with CO2, not only are cannabinoids reduced in the plant (responsible for many benefits), but terpenes are also destroyed.
Without cannabinoids or terpenes, the flowers are no longer of any interest, devoid of any benefits, with no taste or smell. And all this at a price of 8 to 15€ per gram!
