How to consume CBD?

Comment consommer le cbd ?

CBD, or cannabidiol, has captured the attention of the medical world and consumers for its many health benefits.

CBD is a natural compound derived from hemp; this molecule offers a varied range of benefits: stress-relieving, anti-inflammatory, helps with sleep… You’ve probably used it, or want to, to improve your well-being, right?

Advice on CBD consumption can sometimes be hard to find.

In this article, we will first discuss when to use CBD. Once the use and need are confirmed, we will look at which form of CBD is best for you!

With the solution in hand, we will conclude the article with some tips to optimize your experience as well as a reminder of all the essential information so that you can consume your CBD with complete peace of mind!

The health benefits of CBD

Whether for therapeutic use (prescribed by a healthcare professional) or as part of improving your well-being, CBD has recognized benefits.

The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD

One of the most praised characteristics of CBD is its anti-inflammatory power. Studies have shown that CBD can be effective in reducing inflammation in the body, such as arthritis, muscle pain, headaches, painful periods, and even endometriosis.

CBD interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS), which regulates various physiological processes, including the inflammatory response. By modulating ECS activity, CBD can help alleviate inflammation and relieve associated pain.

Furthermore, unlike some common anti-inflammatory drugs, CBD offers a double advantage: it is natural and has fewer undesirable side effects (we will come back to this).

The relaxing and anxiolytic effect of CBD

In addition to its anti-inflammatory properties, CBD is also known for its relaxing and anxiolytic effect. Many people use CBD to help relieve stress, anxiety, and mood disorders.

How does it work? CBD acts on brain receptors responsible for regulating stress and anxiety, particularly serotonergic receptors. By regulating the activity of these receptors, CBD can promote a feeling of calm and well-being, while reducing symptoms associated with anxiety and stress.

The outcomes of these actions are numerous, and one of the most popular is to promote better quality sleep. Thanks to CBD, your body and mind are relaxed before bed. Results:

  • Faster onset of sleep,
  • Improved sleep quality,
  • Restorative sleep,
  • Reduced night awakenings.

CBD can quickly become a favorite for those suffering from insomnia or sleep disorders. Especially since it doesn't cause any addiction!

CBD therefore generally allows you to relieve many ailments and offers a rather convincing promise of improved well-being. Moreover, if you are reading this, it is probably because you are ready to try it but perhaps don't know how to consume it. Let's first take a brief overview of the different existing forms.

The different forms of CBD

CBD oil: how to take it and in what dose?

CBD oil is one of the most popular and versatile forms of CBD consumption. It is generally made by extracting cannabidiol from hemp plants. This extract is then diluted in a carrier oil, such as hemp seed oil (or others, depending on quality!).

To take CBD oil, it is recommended to place a few drops under the tongue using a dropper, then allow them to absorb for 30 to 60 seconds before swallowing. This method allows CBD to be rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream through the oral mucous membranes, thus offering a faster onset of action than other consumption methods. Effects are generally felt within 30 minutes (depending on the dosage).

Regarding the dose, it is advisable to start with a low dose of CBD, generally between 5 and 10 milligrams per day, then gradually increase as needed and according to the effects felt.

However, we recommend consulting a healthcare professional to determine the appropriate dose based on factors such as body weight, individual tolerance, and identified need.

CBD capsules are a convenient option for those who prefer precise and easy-to-take dosage. CBD capsules are pre-dosed and taken discreetly, like a tablet.

Vaping with e-liquid, or even better, CBD distillate, is a quick and effective method for inhaling CBD. CBD distillate is a concentrated form of hemp with high CBD content. It is obtained through a distillation process that removes impurities and isolates pure CBD, usually in the form of a viscous, thick liquid similar to honey. CBD distillate is known for its purity and high CBD concentration.

E-liquid, on the other hand, is a preparation generally composed of CBD isolate (isolated form of CBD) and propylene glycol (PG) and/or vegetable glycerin (VG), with synthetic or natural flavors. So, quite a few additions and a less "clean" form than distillate.

Inhaled CBD is rapidly absorbed into the lungs and enters the bloodstream in just a few minutes, offering an ultra-fast effect.

CBD flowers, also known as hemp buds, are the form closest to the natural hemp plant. CBD flowers offer a full range of natural compounds found in the hemp plant. They also offer an interesting variety of taste (thanks notably to terpenes), making them a popular choice among CBD purists.

Flowers are consumed in different ways:

  • By vaporizer (our recommendation!),
  • In infusion or as an ingredient in culinary recipes (CBD-infused butter or even chocolate!),
  • By smoking them (we really do not recommend this, but we know that some people consume them this way).

Gummies, a type of gelatinous candy. Simple and discreet to consume, you can find them with different CBD dosages (often expressed in milligrams), which is normally clearly indicated on the packaging. The absorption time of gummies is significantly longer than sublingual oil, vaporized flowers, or distillate vaping.

CBD creams, on the other hand, are used for their skin benefits (acne, psoriasis, eczema, anti-aging), or to relieve muscle pain.

Other forms exist, such as resin, used in vaporization or combustion; hemp drinks like infusions or beers…

Your use is unique. Base your decisions on your consumption experiences (if you don't smoke, you're not going to start vaping!).

Evaluate your needs and effects regularly. This way, you can adjust the forms and dosage for healthy and responsible use. To better understand your consumption, you should take a few precautions.

Precautions to take when consuming CBD

CBD is considered safe and usually well-tolerated. Certain precautions should be taken to maximize its benefits while minimizing potential risks.

Undesirable effects of CBD

Although rare, some side effects have been reported in certain people using CBD. These effects can include dry mouth, fatigue, mild diarrhea, and changes in appetite or weight. It is also possible that CBD interacts with certain medications, which can lead to adverse effects.

They are all reversible. Don't miss our full article on this subject.

To avoid these effects, we have two essential recommendations:

  • Dosage: start with a low dose of CBD and increase by 5 mg increments every 3/4 days (Note: the maximum recommended daily dose for non-therapeutic use is 50 mg). After each dose, pay attention to all effects (undesirable and positive!).
  • Seek advice from a healthcare professional. They will be able to guide you on dosage and, most importantly, advise you best, especially if you are taking medication.

Possible interactions with medications

CBD can interact with certain medications, altering their metabolism and affecting their efficacy or side effects. Indeed, CBD inhibits liver enzymes responsible for breaking down many drugs. This can lead to drug accumulation in the body and adverse effects.

It is therefore essential to speak to a healthcare professional before starting to use CBD, especially if you are already taking medications. Your doctor can assess the potential risks of drug interaction and adjust your medications as needed.

Legislation surrounding CBD consumption

Regulations concerning CBD vary from country to country and can also be subject to frequent changes.

Regulation in France and other countries

In France, CBD consumption is authorized as long as the product contains less than 0.3% THC, the psychoactive compound present in cannabis. However, the marketing of CBD flowers, for example, remains regulated and subject to certain restrictions.

THC levels, as well as the display of CBD levels and other analyses, are necessary. A good benchmark when buying a product to ensure its quality!

In other countries, regulations may vary. The authorized THC level may be higher. In Europe, it is legal if below 0.3%. Except for Italy, which goes up to 0.5%. In Switzerland, you can find products that contain less than 1% CBD.

Be careful, it is also possible for CBD to be completely prohibited for sale or consumption. This is the case in Mexico, Egypt, and Dubai. Sweden prohibits the sale of CBD products containing THC.

It is therefore imperative to inform yourself about the specific legislation in your country before buying or consuming CBD (especially if you are traveling)!

Differences between CBD and THC

CBD and THC are both cannabinoids. These molecules are found in cannabis.

Unlike THC, which is responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis and is classified as a controlled substance in many countries, CBD has no psychoactive effect. CBD is legal in France when it contains less than 0.3% THC.

An important detail: THC can cause dependence, unlike CBD, which has no psychoactive effect and does not cause any dependence.

Finally, CBD is recognized for its therapeutic properties and numerous health benefits, while THC is often sought after for its euphoric effects. Consequently, laws governing CBD are often less restrictive than those governing THC.

To conclude, in order to consume CBD with complete peace of mind:

  • Choose a form adapted to your habits, taking into account the speed of absorption,
  • Calculate your ideal dosage (start at 10 mg then + 5 mg every 3 or 4 days),
  • Observe the effects after each intake (relaxation, side effects, state of mind…),
  • Consume responsibly and be aware of your country's laws!
  • Ask for advice from a CBD expert or a healthcare professional.

For us, it is important to consume CBD properly to optimize your usage. The effects of CBD are beneficial and can improve your quality of life. To take advantage of these natural benefits, choose quality products, from organic farming.
